Vanlalhruaii
My name is Vanlalhruaii, I am hailing from Mizoram. I am the youngest sibling among five sisters and three brothers. I spent my childhood days in a small village called Sailam. My father died when I was ten years old, my mother raised us without marrying another man. I did my education up to class ten in my village. I continued my studies in Aizawl up to BA at Pachhunga University College. I finished MA (Philosophy) from North Eastern Hill University, Shillong, I secured first class and NET.
However, my mother passed away while I was in third semester; that was the starting point of searching God in my life. I realized that my mother was my treasure and without her all the things I valued has no meaning in my life. Since, she was no more with me, the only comfort I could seek was God. So, I started searching for God, and with a heart full of guilt, I decided to serve God since it was my mother’s wish for me.
Hence, to train myself, I entered to Discipleship Training Society’s camp at Sihphir Neihbawih, Mizoram. The course they offered was four months course. After the completion, along with five other friends I went to Nepal to involve in God’s ministry. However, unlike our expectation, we faced many problems. After four months I went home, and I was sick spiritually, emotionally, and physically. Doctor diagnosed me as having acute depression. I took medical treatment for two years, and to get well spiritually, I involved in local ministry as a counsellor.
When I got better, a post of guest lecturer was opened at Lunglei Government College, I applied, and I was selected. At the same time, I worked as part time counsellor in Family Counselling Center run by Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl under Social Welfare department. The discipline was humanistic, and I could not employ religious languages in my counselling. My jobs were accompanied by social statuses.
However, jobs, social status and positions in the church did not satisfy my heart’s desire. I left my job and I studied BD at Aizawl Theological College (ATC). After that, I joined Mizoram Presbyterian Church Synod Mission Board. I worked at Oriental High School in Silchar as evangelist teacher for four years. Those four years were the most enriching years in my life. All my sicknesses were gone, I was filled with peace and joy. I became normal again. Then I went back to ATC to study M. Th. By the grace of God, I finished it without much difficulty. then, I went to Myanmar to work in Tahan Theological College, Kalaymyo. I taught Philosophy, English and Theology. After I worked one year, I came back to India to study D.Th. I have submitted first draft of my dissertation and I am now teaching at Serampore College.
